THE FOUR WAYS OF LISTENING
Attention to material facts: listening to the physical world.
A shared cultural metaphor, never four supernatural abilities or a required belief.06 / THE CREATOR’S REFERENCE
Make it yours.
Keep it Mavian.
Identity lives in anatomy, not a fixed palette.
Use this checklist while building your character.
The five defining rules
0 / 5 checkedCheck each feature as you review your reference.
Same species.
Endless expressions.
Any coat palette, markings, body build, gender expression, mane texture, clothing, or personal history can belong. Glow, horns, crest fibers, and named lineages are optional.
What should a reference sheet show? +
Front, side, and rear views; a head close-up; both ear pairs; an eye detail; the tail base and fork; and readable color swatches. Label character-specific decoration separately from species anatomy.
What breaks the standard silhouette? +
Fewer than four true ears, four identical tufts, two tails rooted separately at the pelvis, no substantial mane, or entirely ordinary eyes. Injury, disability, prostheses, and natural variation do not erase a person’s species identity.
Community use & permissions +
The guide proposes an open-species policy, but it remains a draft. Commercial use, adopts, commissions, and redistribution permissions need explicit creator decisions. This atlas grants no new permissions.
